Sony Music Germany Develops MaxiPlus Concept with n-CD Technology
MaxiPlus discs are maxi single CDs based on n-CD. MaxiPlus is an effort to stop the decline in maxi sales which have dropped by 50% since 1997. The concept is a cooperation between Sony DADC, Sony Music Germany, and ring tone provider Sonera Zed, This concept covers maxi releases which are sold in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. MaxiPlus titles are such as Natasha Thomas 'Save your kisses for me' or Anastacia's "Sick & Tired".
MaxiPlus discs contain 4 to 5 tracks and are sold for the same retail price as a regular maxi disc. What makes the disc so special are the free ring tones and bonus downloads, special features, such as lotteries, and exclusive artist images. The disc always connects users to the ring tone provider where the free-bee can be obtained. Only the n-CD's unique identification code, called PID, which is linked to the ring tone code (TAN) and automatically transferred to the provider, will ensure that the user can retrieve his one free ring tone via SMS or enjoy a one-time bonus track download. Sony DADC's n-CD is the only technology available to guarantee that only customers will receive their exclusive features. Users of copies miss out!
Games Publisher TDK goes n-CD
Sony DADC just recently applied the new and exclusive n-CD concept to the first games title –TDK Mercedes World Racing, which hit stores September 2003. For the first time TDK shipped CD-ROMs using this new manufacturing technology. Meaning, the unique n-CD number provides access to the designated and exclusive Mercedes World Racing web area reserved for users of originals only. TDK also protects the disc with SecuROM™ copy control. With n-CD the owners of the originals can now go online, register and download exclusive new racing cars! Users of copies miss out!
As TDK Managing Director Manager Heiko Tom Felde puts it, n-CD is the ideal solution to have cutomers keep returning. „In terms of building loyalty, n-CD is a very efficient tool,“ says Felde. „We shipped 120.000 discs for Mercedes World Racing. For a small investment, which is a lot lower than any ad in a major newspaper, we received thousands of our registered user’s email addresses from all over the world. Now we have the device to win them for our next title!“
Yellow Pages upgraded with n-CD
Infote, publisher of the Yellow Pages in Greece, has just finalised the first n-CD contract with Sony DADC. Already Sony DADC customer and specialized on digital reference books, Infote is the first company from Greece to place an n-CD order. Making the disc more attractive for users and obtaining important customer information are the main objectives in choosing n-CD, says Infote’s marketing department. Infote, user of CD-ROM for previous Yellow Page versions, has decided on providing additional customer value by adding bonus music content and a voucher for additional products
to the Secure Web Link. According to Infote, the
n-CD concept is so winning that the benefits outweigh the investment by far, even though Greece is a very price-sensitive disc market.
The Greek company selected the promotional AB-CD size for their product.
AB-CDs are 12 cm clear-coloured discs with a reflective layer covering the 8 cm inner area. Half of the order entails Yellow Pages of Athens, the other remaining Greece.
As more and more companies are choosing n-CD, there are many new and exciting reports on their experience. For a comprehensive overview of further n-CD success stories, please visit our downloads-section for success-stories.
